Richard Riman, a distinguished professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is leading a team of researchers who have found a possible new source of rare earth elements — phosphate rock waste (essential for technologies such as solar and wind energy and advanced vehicles, and modern electronics like smartphones) — and an environmentally friendly way to get them out which could benefit clean energy.

Rutgers School of Engineering Dean Tom Farris joined Rutgers President Robert Barchi and other key Rutgers faculty at the signing of an agreement to launch the Botswana-Rutgers Knowledge Collaborative. The broad partnership will focus on a spectrum of needs, including development of a biomedical engineering curriculum at the University of Botswana, to help this country transform from a predominantly natural resource-based economy into a knowledge-based one. Yuebin Guo Named Henry Rutgers Professor

Rutgers School of Engineering is pleased to welcome Yuebin Guo, a pioneer in manufacturing informatics, as the Henry Rutgers Professor of Advanced Manufacturing in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Guo will work to establish Rutgers as a global leader in advanced manufacturing, capitalizing on New Jersey's strong manufacturing history while increasing synergistic economic opportunities through focused research, industry partnerships, and an ecosystem of collaboration. SoE Professor Elected Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors

Thomas Nosker, assistant research professor of materials science and engineering, is among a group of 66 academic inventors elected to the inaugural class of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) senior members — an elite group of active faculty, scientists, and administrators who have produced technologies that make a real impact on the welfare of society. Rutgers Student Helps NASA Discover Planets

Pedro Gerum (ISE/PhD) is putting the skills he developed working to improve railroad track inspections in New Jersey toward helping NASA discover new planets outside our solar system. The fourth-year doctoral student recently started an internship at NASA's Ames Research Center, part of the agency's TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) mission. Read more>>
